That seems to be the consensus: everyone seems to agree that the silver wheels are smarter. In addition the steering is lighter, the motor car is more sprightly and the speedometer error has been corrected.
It seems a pity not to use the correct red wheels with their new tyres and very smart new hubcaps, but I seem to have stumbled upon a really good solution - so perhaps they will spend much of their time in the spares shed?
It would be surprising if there are not other Amazons out there that have been converted from M40 to M41/OD transmissions but still have 4.1:1 (rather than 4.56:1) rear axles. The manifestations of this will be the gearing a little high and the speedometer reading a bit low. We have discussed possible solutions to the speedometer problem in the above - but fitting 175/60 tyres is the complete solution to both issues.
