I have (almost) exactly this in my new to me 2008 XC90. The exception being that the bearing noise (kind of a buzz) doesn't happen all the time but the whine/whistle does. Stops within 30 secs of turning the AC off. Not audible outside the car and often not when idling. Most apparent around 30-40 MPH. I initially thought it might be the blower motor because the noise sounds as if it is from behind the dash and vents but it is linked to whether the AC is running, not the fan speed.
The car is currently with the supplying Volvo dealer for them to investigate and correct. If I get any joy I'll update this thread.
