Well I finally got to the bottom of the issue. Bit embarrassing really, took the car to my local trusted specialist for a soot filter regeneration as the message had come up and I had tried a good old thrash to no avail. Asked them to check out the noise which was obvious in the car park. It turned out to be the disc guard too close to the disc. Tech moved it slightly and no more noise. I checked all round there originally when we first heard the noise but not being sure what the clearance should be and the noise not being evident with the wheel off it seemed OK to me. Any way, happy days.
