THIS! - I eventually got the V90 back (it was under lockdown with glasgow Volvo) and apparently tyhe new software update allowed the car to diagnose a problem with a seal in one of the cylinders (maybe oil seal - can't remember).
Just in case this helps someone else in the same boat.
