If you are not too worried about security, you can tape one chipped key near the steering lock and the key antenna, and then use just a physical key (without a chip, physically copied from the one new key that you will have bought) to operate the locks, and including starting the car. Of course, if someone copies your physical key, then they could in theory steal the car. Your insurance company would probably not pay out.

As mentioned in an earlier post, replacement key from Volvo is £336! Cheapest non-volvo is £180 and they want the ignition barrel and then a fob is still required.
