The viscous fan really isn't noisey, mine has come on about twice in the last 20 years, yes it sounds like a bus until it cools down, but it stops quickly once you are moving. It's less noisey than the electric fan when it comes on at idle.
It fits the non AC just fine, and is standard. Just maybe not powerful enough for AC in the hot summer.
