Hi Tony,

Just a thought. I think it might be worth checking whether the top strut bearings are bad.

At a standstill, have one person inside the car with the engine running, turning the steering wheel from side to side, with another person holding the stop of a strut where it pokes into the engine compartment. (And do the same on the other side).

When the struts are under load like this, maybe worn bearings would show up as a lack of smoothness as the wheel turns.
