For those that are interested how the rear suspension works read the pic.
Item number 5 the "steering link" or "rear axle link" is the only place the actual suspension is bolted directly to the car and when this wears badly it alters the toe-ing of the rear wheels allowing wander as it is trying to steer the car from the rear.
