Thanks again for your comments and information.
The reason I asked the question was that my daily 740 GLT had suddenly lacked power while towing the other evening.
Since then I have stripped down the engine and found a burnt valve, I am going down the route of repairing things and replacing the piston rings etc to hopefully give the car and new lease of life, it would be a shame to see another 16 valve 740 bite the dust, there can not be many left, I have not seen another in the time I have had this one.
