Dont know if yours is the same as v70d5 ie turbo and electronic actuator but they do fail. I too had garages say replace turbo etc. I replaced the actuator myself and it was plug and play. I rang a few companies up and told them details of my car and got a replacement actuator. It was just over 200 quid. I would do some research first and see what you can find out.
