Post Guide: How to change front lightbulbs

For S40 year 2003-2004, might be for some older models as well.

It should take no more than 15-20 minutes to change all of them, the only problem is to access them. For passenger side, loosen up battery mounts to move the battery a bit further into the engine bay.

So then, you are driving in town/city/countryside and then notice that one of the front lights isn't working(the light bulb has gone out)

it looks like this

-----

Open the hood/bonnet.
I changed that light bulb on drivers side.

Remove the rubber cover

There is no hooks/screws or anything, just simply remove that rubber cover.
-----

When you have removed it, cables and other stuff is uncovered.

-----

Push the bottom wire a bit towards the front of the car, then push it UP a bit, it will release the bottom holder.

Then push top wire a bit towards front of the car, then push it DOWN a bit, it will release top wire.

Then you will find out that it's actually a one twisted peace of aluminium.
When you have released them both and moved them it will look like this.

-----

Remove the lightbulb from housing

Notice that the little notch should be pointing straight up, or light bulb won't be seated correctly. When you are inserting the light bulb back inside, just look inside the headlight housing that the light bulb is actually straight, then just do the opposite to install them. And remember to put that rubber back on.

And that's it.

Installation cost ~£5 from Halfords, now you can do it yourself and save some ££

P.S. Do not touch the new lightbulb glass with bare hands, it's shortens the lifetime of the bulb significantly!

I got these from my local garage, 2 of them for £7

And this is how it looks after the new light bulb was inserted

Note that the bonnet/hood is not securely shut because I had other things to do in the engine bay

My next upcoming guides (not in order) brake pad/brake disc change, window tinting, timing belt adjustment, brake calliper maintenance and other stuff.
