It was a difficult sell, because of CO2 levels and poor predicted residuals there wasn't enough differential between the R and stuff like the M3 for high-end company car user/choosers or people looking for something to lease. That left Volvo with a market consisting mainly of private owners who really really wanted a 34 grand S60 and dealers taking demonstrators.
Lovely looking cars though, there's a gunmetal gray one I see regularly near to where I live, understated but purposeful.
