As Japster mentioned above, the 5 cylinder engines are much better than the PSA ones. The 5 cylinder engines are true Volvo engines, whereas the PSA ones were developed in partnership with Peugeot.
Pre 2010, they were badged 1.6d and 2.0d... both of these are 4 cylinder engines, which require DPF replacement and EOLYS fluid every 75k.
After 2010, they changed from 1.6d and 2.0d to "D2"... its still a PSA engine, but it doesn't need DPF replacement or EOLYS fluid.
However, after 2010, they also introduced true Volvo 5 cylinder engines badged D3 and D4... those are better than the PSA ones.
If you can, go for a 5 cylinder one.
