Yes, that's right - John Tallis was based on Bathwick Hill (now a Tesco Express) during my childhood and had the franchise for 26 years (so I've just discovered). When he relinquished it in 1986 to move over to Mercedes Renrod (a local independent group) picked the Volvo franchise up, moving it to their new premises on the Lower Bristol Road. Turns out they only kept it for 10 years before
Volvo pulled the plug (as you say, too close to Bristol) so they moved over to a Toyota franchise instead.
