Default re: Damaged CVT belt on one side of 340GL aut

x(Had a fairly catastrophic incident with my 340GL auto.

I’ve had some bizarre noises which I was assured was play on my prop shaft which I replaced. However, after this and the noises had gone I got some other noises and vibrations from for the gearbox and within the space of a few miles developed into a burning rubber smell and smoke billowing from the rear wheel arches.

The upshot is that the drivers side CVT belt has deteriorated and actually turned inside out, however the other belt is fine. The belts were bought from Euro Car Parts and have only done about 10,000 miles.

My mechanic seems to think there is nothing wrong with the operation of the CVT and suggested that something may have got in from the road – even though the guards are in place.

Does anyone have any thought on a cause or had similar experience.

The car is B reg with 80,000 miles on the clock.

Cheers

Gary
