Set up the 1.35V. Actually the nearest I could get this time was 1.39V. But thats OK. The self check works and ETS light and limp mode are off.

The unusual noise from the throttle was a rapid "clack clack" accompanied by the ETS light and limp mode. I now know this happens when the voltages are either too high, too low or missing. When in spec. the self test 30 second whine happens, and all is good.

I also discovered that only on the 1999 model year, if the brake pedal position sensor is out of spec, it throws the ETS warning light. This would explain the random illumination of said light I was getting. Stripped it and the input contacts had become unsoldered from the board. Now fixed.

So far, no ETS light. Engine running sweet as a nut.
