Agreed too complicated/not enough power to try run the whole house. In the same way I have to run an extension lead from a diesel genny into the house now - I could do the same from an inverter.

I think it might work if I leave the ignition on and the electric engine 'running' as it would be the same state then, as sitting in a traffic jam for example.

The car would have to use it's traction battery keep the starter battery charged - or the starter battery would quickly flatten with wipers/blower/heated rear windscreen on without the internal combustion engine running/alternator turning.

- so I think I might have answered my own question, 1st problem I foresee though is that the daytime running lights would be on all the time
