Robert, I somehow missed your reply to my enquiry. At least we are back to knobs!
Checking on how big the 1800 one is I removed one from a remote I have "in store". Was interested to find that it didn't have a lock nut on it although I did think that the tube actually went up inside the knob. Instead it had an extension adaptor which screwed into the knob. Very tight and I haven't tried to remove it. It was this that was screwed onto the lever. Extension makes the knob 1" longer. Interesting, but more so when I realised that this was an extension that I removed from a Ruddspeed Amazon. The same one that had the Ruddspeed dash with no instruments that I posted onto the Ruddspeed site. When the early remote is fitted to an Amazon the lever is a bit short and does sit down between the seats a bit so I guess that Rudds added this to their conversions to raise it and also increase the leverage. For someone used to the standard long lever, maybe a good thing. I've never seen this mentioned anywhere and it's not noted on the Rudd's list.

Ah. Those were the days! I have the tunnel panel too. Very crude and was fitted with self tappers. Probably had a run of Sealer round it.
