Spent last night conversing with my daughter 2000mi away with a disabled v40 in an airport parking garage. She got there and saw smoke coming out of engine bay and smelled burning rubber. After some trouble-shooting we discovered that the aux belt was half shredded. She managed to pull the broken bits off but a thin strand remained on the pulleys. Tow truck said they could not get in parking garage so we took a risk and started it. Both times it ran for about 5s and stalled. Gulp. Stay tuned for sequel.
