I changed the rear pads and disks on my 2010 2.4d xc 60. There are a number of posts on the forum and on youtube of various methods to release the electronic parking brake (EPB). I used the technique of (carefully) disconnecting the 12v connector to the EPB and used a 12v supply to retract the parking brake. This way I did not have to disturb the EPB housing and weather seals.
I had to get a garage to do the fronts as a couple of the carrier bolts defeated me; I didn't have a long enough breaker bar. I used Volvo pads but they seem to have generated a lot of brownish brake dust, but they do not squeal.
