The electric system must always be perfect. Changing plugs 10k in advance, distributor cap every 40k miles, wires every 2/3 years, checking the condition of the gas hoses monthly and replace when they get dry and hard.
This way you keep the car in top notch condition, spend some money on t but still saving a lot in fuel.
