I have just bought a c30 d5 auto with the 5 speed and also have a 6 speed auto xc90 and they drive totally different even though they have the same engine.
The 5 speed is a lot more direct with no slip at all but the 6 speed definitely slips a little, tannaton is spot on with it, it feels nicer to drive and the extra gear helps to get it moving better especially as the xc90 is a heavy car.
