It's "Van With Windows" better known as the estate version.

You do realise the owners of the cars you slag off are also on this forum? Have you seen the car in person? I don't think so.

This forum is supposed to be for enthusiasts to help each other not constantly knock other people's cars.

If a car is rare then it's going to cost more than a more common 240 estate. This car is the only one of this model available in the country. Unless of course you know better.

........... says the person with a grand total of 9 posts since joining in July 2021?

I'm not going to enter into an argument or even a discussion with you but with a post rate of ~3 a year, you don't sound very enthusiastic to me.
Also, which car are you specifically referring to? Actually regardless of which car it was (as it doesn't really matter), i would have been referring to an over-optimistic price expectation from whichever seller that would have been.
That is wildly different to denegrating a car, generally i don't denegrate vehicles, just point out, as objectively as i can, faults which may be apparent.

Even rare cars can fall into the pit of being valueless, often because they have only been heard of by a few people and therefore are not on offer to a wide section of the buying public. Then there are things like Reliant three-wheelers which have a limited appeal and so will never realise values of similar era cars with four wheels (unless they're a Morgan) so everything is subject to market forces.

***EDIT*** Nearly forgot, the definition of "forum" is a place for open discussion. Worth remembering before entering into personal attacks!

Sometimes the help provided is advice to avoid following a certain course of action; whether you would construe this as a negative depends on whether or not you have skin in that particular game. Most forum members do not "constantly knock other people's cars" as you put it.

Many of the vehicles remarked upon in this thread, and no doubt others, are being sold by commercial operations rather than enthusiasts - which means that they may have over-ambitious price-tags - or by individuals who think that their car is special. Proffering advice often acts as a wake-up call for at least some of them, as the price descends to more realistic levels.

I am a long term Volvo enthusiast and love my cars. When you have to sell a car you love it's hard enough, without your fellow enthusiasts announcing to the whole Volvo community that your car is over priced, or to make personal comments about you, such as "he's been drinking something" when they haven't seen the car and are therefore not in a position to judge.

When I had to sell my beloved 240 GL a while back, the same people announced on here and I quote "another over priced 240". The car was possibly the best in the country and certainly one of the best. The asking price was £8k and it sold for the full asking price to an enthusiast. I still miss that car and would happily pay the same price one day to buy it back. That's because I'm a true enthusiast who appreciates what it is.

Just because I haven't posted on this particular forum and these people don't know me doesn't mean I'm not a knowledgeable, long term enthusiast who likes to try to help out my fellow enthusiasts. I also have the same right to my opinions on here irrespective of how much I have posted.

What gets me is these people cast judgement on a car when they haven't even seen it in the flesh.

This thread is sometimes somewhat irreverent, but that is absolutely fine and perhaps one of the reasons it has run and run. I think it quite amusing that our friend from the South West can’t sell his VWW, feels a bit miffed at that and so has taken a swipe at Dave, Steve and Alf rather than accept it is a bit overpriced for what it is.

Early 245s are slightly rare, but by no means unique. This one has a very patchy MoT test history; it looks like it had about a decade resting under the apple tree until 2017 and the odometer hasn’t worked since then. Would it be fair to describe it as having a few scabs? Absolutely yes. Is it a bit overpriced? Well, it has been for sale for over a month, so it is hardly flying off the shelf, is it? Without having seen the motorcar I’d say it is probably not as good as The Barge (an historic registered 2.3 GLE saloon) that I sold last year for 6 grand… make of that what you will.

I’d say that Steve, Dave and Alf’s comments are all fair and reasonable… but even if they were not then so what? This is a light hearted discussion thread mostly concerned with prices for Volvo 240s (amongst many other tangents we frequently take). It is one of the longest running single threads on the forum, so one might have to accept that it has been quite successful.

It would be nice if our friend from the South West swallowed his pride, accepted the fair comments for what they are and started contributing to the forum.

Just the meandering thoughts of a grumpy man with a beard before Bobwalkin.
