Yes I believe so as all the components on the MOST network talk to each other even if they are not on.
There is the cd deck and the display as well as the amp under the drivers seat. And if you have them there are also the telephone, sat nav, mini disc player, subwoofer.
You can use the loop to take each one you have out and see if it fixes the issue.

OK thanks - that sounds a bit above my pay grade ! Are there any "how to's" for numptys, posted here or on the Tube or is it it something I should leave to a qualified auto electrician/volvo expert?

Having a supply of spares will also help
OK - Seb will do the VIDA analysis for me next week. I will to get there with the ICM in fault mode. I will need to keep the car running to maintain the fault before it it plugged in - is that ok for VIDA/Dice? Where should we be looking for faults/codes. Anything else to do ?

I have a 2006 V70 and the CD player has failed on the HU 850 radio, it just spits and inserted CD straight our and says 'CD ERROR'.
I am thinking of replacing it with one from Ebay but suspect I need the same part numbered unit.
My question is will my VIDA / DICE give me the part number of the one that is fitted?
It seems to just show a list of all possible options. Many thanks
