A good starting point is this “sticky” thread that has links to the original Volvo installation instructions.

As you will probably be using secondhand parts from a donor vehicle you need to make sure you get all the bits. It would be easiest to have the donor vehicle nearby so you can see how all the parts are installed and connected.

A 1997 car should be mostly pre-wired.

Thanks for the reply! Would a donor car just need to be a 740/ 940 equipped with Cruise control? Or does the year have to be specific too?

There are two different cruise control modules, with different wiring connectors (with different numbers of pins).

You'll need the cruise control module to fit your wiring loom.

The only other difference is making sure the bits on the engine fit the type of engine you have. The throttle reel is different between Redblock, 760 6 cylinder and diesel models.
