European breakdown cover.
I'm taking my '65 PV544 to both the Spa and LeMans Classic events this year and was wandering what people do for Breakdown cover in Europe. I'll be giving the car a thorough check over before both trips but want 'peace of mind' if something drastic goes wrong and the wheels stop rolling. First time abroad in a classic although I've travelled extensively on my 1940 BSA WM20, never given breakdown cover any thought as there was so little to go wrong that couldn't be fixed at the roadside.
Ironically my fellow travellers in Jaguar, Triumph & MG products seam to have great faith in my Volvo and insist I take a tow rope in case they break down! Any advise appreciated. Stuart Last edited by swedemash; Feb 15th, 2016 at 14:41. |

Breakdown cover
I'm insured by Peter James, and Europewide breakdown cover is included, and it works,as they got my Triumph home when a hub bearing failed.
That's the only time I've needed it so far,but it is good to know you're covered should the need arise, which I'm sure it won't. I'll look out for you at Le Mans . Andy. |

I'm with RH insurance and they offer the same. However before I was with them I took an old Porsche to Chimey and got 4 days European cover from the RAC for £46.

I hadn't thought about the breakdown cover that might be included with my insurance (Footman James).
I'll take a look at that first, may even be worth me swapping to Peter James given the positive comments posted above. Cheers, Stuart |

After actually checking my insurance I realised I was with Adrian Flux. I'll be taking there annual cover for £70, much cheaper if you do it at the same time you insure your car (i never thought about it at the time).
The RAC wanted a lot more (£70'ish per trip) but after a chat it came down to £84 for the two trips. Still too much for effectively 10 days cover! Hopefully I won't have to use it . Stuart |
