Selling a caravan but unsure of value
Hi all, looking for some help in putting a price on a caravan.
Wife and I purchased it on the cheap as a friend of ours passed away and his wife needed to get rid of it. This was about a year ago and we haven’t used it. It is a single axle Swift Danette diamond circa 1995. It is in good general condition, with the only things to note being the plastic trim in the aluminium strips on the outside have gone in places, and the toilet/shower cubicle door needs a door handle/latch. It is a 5 berth, with the front seating area converting to a large double bed and the rear seating area converting to a small double with a single pull out bunk above, and sliding door to shut the rear sleeping area off for privacy. It has a gas heater, Electrolux fridge and four hob and grill, no oven but there is a microwave that we have put in the van, but we have not used any of the gas appliances but according to our friend all in working order. We have also bought a new leisure battery and it has a full awning and has 3 large water bottles and a waste tank on wheels. Tyres appear to be fairly recent and in good condition. I don’t know much about caravanning so any advice on price and best way to sell it would be welcome. Doesn’t appear to have any damp issues or any leaks. |

Prices of used caravans have been very inflated over the last couple of years, largely because of the demand for “staycations”; I don’t know how they will hold up this year.
A quick Google search brings up a few similar vans for sale with prices ranging from £1250 to £1500 for private sales, to just over £2000 at dealers. The extra equipment with yours will increase its value slightly, and also make it more attractive to a first time buyer. The plastic filler strip on the awning rail is quite cheap to buy on eBay, and would be worth changing, in order to improve the appearance of the van, likewise the door handle; people are more likely to buy something that does not need any work. If storage is not a problem, prices and demand will rise before Easter, so that is a good time to sell. I sold our last caravan on the Facebook marketplace site, and was very surprised by the demand and the number of enquiries, so it might be a good place to start.

Thanks. Caravan sold last week, put it up for 1295 on gumtree.
Stupidly agreed over the phone to take a grand for it but when they came to view found some damp around one of the windows so said he could take it away for 900. Given the fact our friend said we could have it for 300 it was a result but must of had a dozen or so messages after agreeing price with the first caller I could have got more but wanted it out of the way. |
