Default Handbrake on v70 '98

Hi,i have had the brakes off the rear of my v70 because the handbrake is only working on one side. All looks ok.
I can see through the inspection hole there is a wheel to adjust the pads in to the drum, does anyone know which way you turn the wheel to go in and out.
also is it different for each side,ie up on one side of the car and down on the other.
regards
colin

Adjust the star wheel with a screw driver up or down until the drum locks, then back it off again until the drum revolves without binding,it should take up the slack within a half turn one way,if it doesent try it the other way.
Make shure you do both sides, that will make the shoes pull up evenly.

Hi,Cant honestly say offhand, like i said in my previous answer, try revolving it both ways, one will be right and the hubs will go tight, then you need to back them off till free.

I replaced my handbrake shoes, discs & pads last weekend. Having the memory of a 'sieve-brain' I cannot remember which way lol. It is 'sided' tho'

The answer is here: http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=48594

My handbrake had failed completely............. reason, on looking was that the friction material had parted company from the handbrake shoe .

Having looked around the forums, this is a common failure. BTW, mines is a little older being a 96' 850.....

Good Luck.
