To get the glass out, I used a guitar string and a ton of effort.
To get it back in? No idea. I pried the glass from the metal and slipped a screwdriver through, made a hole and sent the guitar string through that, the I pulled the guitar string back and forth around the screen to free it from the mighty cling of the 16yr old bonding stuff. Took a good length of time... I'd guess there is a much easier way of doing this, but I failed to find one. Once it popped out though was one of the appiest moments of my life... |

Hi 240, Is it a 240 we are on about???? ,Rear screens on those were I think, just fitted in the rubber, so all you have to do is push the corner of the screen from the inside and gently push it out..take the seal off the rim and refit around your replacement screen, then get a length of cord and insert it around the outer lip and cross the cord at the top...rest the bottom lip back on the rim of the window..get somebody to apply abit of pressure from the outside and pull one end of the cord to pull the lip over the rim..stop halfway round, and do the same to the other side, and it should pull it in....hope this helps.......
It used to be a saftey issue then that in the event of an accident you could kick the back screen out to get out of the car...... john |

I've swapped an old-style recessed glass screen just by careful leaving, but had to give up trying to get the trim back in. I think that's a mixture of skill and the special tool.
I don't know about the newer flush style. Is it bonded like the front screen? |

hi clifford, no they only started bonding front screens in the early 80,s, not to sure about the back...you are right about some rubbers around the rear screen, some had a plastic insert in them, and yes you needed a tool to fit this in, but fairy liquid and a flat screwdriver and abit of patience you could get the insrt back
I used to fit screens some 30 yrs ago, but as with time it all changes |

yes it appears to be bonded in place, having phoned around most companies are charging £40 to remove and replace in a new tailgate, which i suppose isnt bad and if it breaks then they are responsible!!
