Default U Turns

I was taking my mum shopping in Haverfordwest, South Wales this week. Just before a roundabout there was a right hand filter lane, my Mum had instucted me to get into this lane. As I got the green filter lane signal my Mum told me to do a u-turn. I was hesitant and refused and turned right. She was cross with me and said my Dad and everybody else and the Police do a u turn there. We had to go the long way around to get to where she wanted. My Dad insists that it's perfectly legal as it doesn't say 'No u turns' and he's probably right but to me the green broken arrow pointing right means turn right and the manoeuvre felt alien to me! I've tried very hard to find this junction on google earth but can't!

Thoughts anybody?

Just found this, seems my Dad was right but it just did not feel right?

A U-turn is considered to be illegal if one of the following happens:

You cross a kerb
You cross double white lines in the centre of the road (unless there is a gap between them)
Road markings or signs indicate 'No U-turns'
You are on a one-way street

I would have thought that in your situation Laney ie would have been ok. If your turning right then you would have had to wait for the oncomming traffic to clear before you could procede, much like with the u-turn so you dont hold anybody up.

One I have thought of is this. The main road through my town is very briefly a dual carriageway. Where it returns to a single carriageway at one end there is a NO U-TURN sign. However a lot of people coming out the petrol station which is only accesible from one side do u-turn there. I wonder how far the restriction applies for though? If you travel 10 yds, 100yds or a mile past the sign does the restrction still apply?

No oncoming traffic, when you get the right hand filter the traffic coming the other way is on a red light

U turns eh!
I own an S60, so have no experience of U turns, whereas 3,5,7 and 9 point turns are something I am very well versed in

Just found this: A man in Reading did exactly the same thing. The Police nicked him for it but the Council say it is legal

[Laws RTA 1988 sect 36 & TSRGD regs 10 & 36]
177

Green filter arrow. This indicates a filter lane only. Do not enter that lane unless you want to go in the direction of the arrow. You may proceed in the direction of the green arrow when it, or the full green light shows. Give other traffic, especially cyclists, time and room to move into the correct lane.

I think that's being taken too literally if it's read as ruling out a U-turn. It seems to me that having begun to turn right, you have complied with the filter arrow. What happens thereafter is that, having turned right, you elect (in effect) to make a further turn back along the road from which you began. In short, I analyse a U-turn as two right turns. And if they don't want you to do it, let them put up a sign.

Nothing to do with u turns but Laney you are in one of my favourite parts of the UK . I have many memories of holidays and day trips to that part of the coast .

Seems to me it would be easier to go round the roundabout first and then turn left. Much safer.
