Default Are we mad ?

Hi,

Well, a friend and I have just bought a '92 240 Torslanda. Nothing remarkable about that you might well think.

However, this is going to be our car to compete in the Calais to Casablanca
rally next April, see www.calais2casablanca.com if you're interested.

I wondered if you guys could advise on anything to do or check in preparation other than the usual service items along with a cambelt and
V belt changing session ?

So, what do you reckon to our chances of getting there (and back ?), or are we mad ?

Regards,

Roger.

Engine oil and filter. Air filter. Check gearbox and diff oils, Cambelt (USE a genuine Volvo one) 'V' belts, and a general check round on things like springs, exhaust, battery, and the car should get you there and back without a problem.

Hi,

Given the car is a Volvo 240 there is nothing to stop your car getting there and back.
Several times too...

This, however, has no bearing on whether or not you are mad..

I just hope you bring her back in good knick and sell on to a person happy to look after her and bring her back to the condition she deserves to be in...
You will do that, won't you...?

Check the spare wheel. And you must absolutely not forget to fill the fuel tank every now and then.

Hmmmm, if I were a grumpy old man I too might have pondered on the wisdom of assisting people preparing 240's for this type of event, especially where they seem to get painted in garish 'themed' designs - thus ensuring the vehicle will be scrapped afterwards.

Of course it's all for chariteee, and I'm not grumpy, so I didn't - but they are becoming harder to find!

it seems to be different from the version i looked at ,although the £100 max rule is there nothing is said it has to be left hand drive (some country down there laws say it must be) and ofcourse nothing about selling it at the end .
perhaps the run is different or the rules have been relaxed!

Well,

Thanks for the replies, only just stopped laughing at marcs post. Good advice though................

Regarding concerns over any garish finish, this hasn't been decided on yet, but it did come into our ownership finished in a rather fetching matt red through years of neglect on the polishing front. This in itself of course helps with the image of the event.

If she performs well, there are plans to re-patriate her to England to use in other rallies, who knows, five years on, the grille may be festooned with Street Safari paraphernalia, kinda like an extreme version of a caravan club Volvo.................

The team name is Tequila Stuntmen after both the drink and the famous rock and roll covers band from Leicester.

Wish us luck, God knows we're gonna need all we can get.

Regards,

Roger.

Hi...i would suggest engine and fuel management relays...spare fuses...make sure you use and possibly a new/spare airfilter..this has a major effect on fuel economy....alternator brushes..headlight bulbs...and possibly a crank position sensor...its only when you try to obtain parts for 240"s that you realise that its not just a matter of going to your local motor factors...on the engine management relays...ask the others members..i"m a bit of a novice on this score!....cheers and good luck...and as the others say...do bring it back!...we need it!...hj.
