How much should I ask for my 145?
Hi guys,
I have mentioned on here that I am selling my B20E but there is no rush as it's my daily driver at the moment and my new project is a few weeks away from MOT. I know that the general consensus is that a car is worth what someone will pay for it, but if I put it on classiccarsforsale.com or Fleabay, what would be the starting price I should base it on? The car needs a re-spray as it has some scratching to the paintwork on both sides, but no real rust. Underneath, there is some scabby metal, especially around the exhaust at the rear but it went straight through MOT with no advisories. It has had a new waterpump and alternator and a big recent service. It has the full length roof rack and a seven seat conversion with a towbar. The interior is a symphony of brown but completely unmarked. The roof lining is excellent and it has the original working stereo. The only thing that doesn't work is the rear wiper, and I'm working on that. I have replaced the snapped wire that goes through the boot hinge. but it may be a little more than that! I will attempt to get some photos on here later on today. In summary, a great tax exempt car that needs some bodywork fettling but is used and enjoyed every day (especially with its £81 annual insurance tag) and could pull a train. Any thoughts and opinions gratefully accepted. Cheers |

Hi. Its always a difficult one because as you've said, its worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Regardless of where you advertise it though you'll likely get someone chancing their arm with a cheeky offer so as long as you don't put it on too cheap then someone can always try and knock the price down. A classified add on fleabay with best offer is not bad option and not too expensive.
A lot of people seem to break cars up and sell them for parts which is a shame in my opinion. You say though the engine could pull a train, mmmhhhh ;-/ Cheers Tony |

Yes I agree about cheeky bids. I have been known to make them myself! The problem with a classified ad is knowing where to pitch it originally. I wont pull it apart cos I saved it from the scrap man this time but its worth a lot as razor blades so I need to be careful who I sell it too!

£15 spent at the local "Kosovo Karwash" would help convince me that it's really a daily driver. The pictures don't do it any favours but it would look a lot better after a good scrub up.

I don't need to convince anyone that it's a daily driver Derek. These photos were taken the day I got it out of the barn that it had been stored in for eight years. That was four months ago before I MOT'd it. I haven't taken any recent ones yet as I'm in no hurry to sell it but I will take some tarted up ones before I put it on the bay.

Before and after pics are always a good one so people can see the hard graft and money you've put into it. I reckon it would also be good for people on the forum to see new pics as they could probably give a more accurate estimate of a selling price.
What's it's worth then? I'd sell it to Billy for £1200 :-) This one was on ebay that other day, you may have seen it already but here is a link in case you didn't: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2308473309...ht_1614wt_1397 Also a few stats of how many are left on the road, not sure how accurate it is though. http://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/combined/volvo_145 Like your comment regarding the cheeky bids - that's guilty then :-) |

Guilty as charged m'Lud! If people are daft enough to sell convertibles in Winter then they are usually desperate. That's all I'm going to say.....
:-) I will get some spruced up pics on. That eBay car looks a bit crustier than mine and not tax exempt but it is an auto so swings and roundabouts. Thanks for all your posts guys. Billy, it's yours for £1150 :-) Last edited by sigane; Sep 18th, 2012 at 19:35. Reason: Missed a bit off! |
