Hey guys, I have a 1.8 460 with 74k on the clock nearly and I was wondering when the cambelt would need changing on it? I know its something that needs to be done at some point but a rought estimation would be great....

Hi, think I'm right in saying 48k or 4 years - IF memory serves, for earlier models. Think it was increased to 60k & 5 years for later ones.

What also counts, is whether it's an original Volvo belt, or aftermarket (e.g. Gates) belt. Original factory belts last longer, 60 000 sounds like it, but some may take 70 000-80 000. If you're uncertain, and the previous owner can't recall changing it, then the best bet is to change it. It's much cheaper than repairing the engine. Also, the pulleys/tensioners have to be changed as well.

Thanks for the info guys, its on 73k atm so I might see about getting it done. The car has sprouted a new problem though, seems to be loosing brake fluid and I have no idea why so was going to get under the car tomorrow if possible but I don't really know what I should look for on the brake system as its totally different to my old metro...

Any opinions on my Quinton Hazell cam belt waiting to go in my 940 Chow? Rubbish? You seem to be well informed on manufacturers I've noticed from your postings. By the way, hope this doesn't sound sarky, I'm being serious, have been concerned about putting in this cheap belt!! Thanks

QH are IMO junk laney, go for a oe volvo one or a gates item, rufe should sort you out if you go volvo, however if you do fit it i change it at about 20k it just aint worth the risk ,as matter of interest the best specced belts are reinforced using kevlar fibres to increase durability

A genuine volvo belt for your TD 940 will cost £34.73 inc vat full retail, though from us at FRF it will be £25.35 inc vat, plus £2.35 for recorded delivery postage. Any tensioners you require will be additional to this price of course, but let me know what you want if you wish to order from us (best via a pm as i may miss it here)
