hi there, no i mean at what psi of boost does the ecu cut the fuel, to stop the engine from over boosting or do volvo's not have this feature ?
for example, my impreza has fuel cut @ 16psi to stop the engine from running to much boost. thanks david Last edited by davidgoodwin1803; May 23rd, 2010 at 22:07. |

It is a difficult question not black and white ..
The turbo minimum boost is about 5 psi so it can never go lower than that , and the boost above that is controlled electronicaly depending on all sorts of parameters , so in a worst case if the engine was overheating it could only reduce the boost to say 5 psi but also it will control the ignition timing to reduce temperature and also inject more fuel and turn the air conditioning off to cool the engine down .. so quite a complex question ! on the 440 turbo it was alot simpler , you could run the standard system at 12 psi ( up from 9 psi ) the cut out was just over 13 psi ...

with my impreza its just as simple as change the stock controller for an aftermarket type, turn it up to 15psi and get an extra 30bhp.
i will have to look in to it a little deeper then to gain a few extra bhp. thanks for your help David |

It's even easier on the Volvo. Get a engine management system remap (BSR, RICA, TME), upload it to your car. Hey presto, 40 or so extra horses!
2.0T may not be the ideal starting point but I've got a BSR PPC for mine and it has transformed the car. |

Might be worth a chat with Russell at RT Mechanics (Haslemere, Surrey) on 01428 648 648. He sells both RICA and BSR upgrades.
With BSR it's DIY - you buy a black box (PPC - stands for something in English which probably makes sense to a Swede) which plugs into the engine diagnostic port (under the dash on the driver side) and then it uploads the new map. Takes about 5 mins. You can also use it to downgrade to the original when you want. I bought mine from partsforvolvo online for around £550 I think. With RICA I think you have the option of having the seller remap it for you, or buy it on the same box as the BSR to diy. I don't know so much about TME but the supplier for these is Don Norchi. Suggest you search on the forum. From the posts it seems as though everyone is delighted with what they get - I'm certainly happy with BSR. Maybe a chat with Russ and Don will clarify the options for you. The companies websites are useful too. They all make detailed claims about boosted power and torque which may be slightly useful but I just assumed they are meaningless. They are all just software changes. BSR call their upgrade Stage 1. They also sell stage 2 and 3 which starts messing with the exhaust and cat and they claim gives some marginal benefit. Never thought it was worth it myself. |
