It won't start!!!
Hello all, went to start my 2001 S60 2.0ts and the engine just doesn't want to know. I am suspecting an etm issue as I had the throttle body clean and software update just before x-mas and it seems to be a bit of a coincidence but that is for another post. I just wanted to know if there could be any other cause for my car not starting? Any help would be great.

Could be lots of reasons, best start with the basics, check for spark at plugs, check for fuel at plugs, are plugs clean and gapped correctly?
Can you hear fuel pump when you turn ignition switch to position two? Make sure you have a good clean earth connection to bodywork in the engine bay. If answer to all the above is yes I would start to worry about sensors and immobilizer. |

Hi,
Make sure you have at least a couple of gallons of petrol in the tank. I had what I found to be a common problem of a weak fuel pump. I had parked up with the fuel gauge just above the red. Next morning it woudn't start. Put 2 gallons in and it started first time!!! Since then have not had any problems but make sure I don't park up for the night on a near empty tank. Hope you find the problem - and its cheap to fix!!! Bob |

Thanks for that I will check on the plugs and fuel pump tomorrow. The fuel guage is showing just above the red and it is parked facing downhill, maybe that is the cause I shall try putting some more fuel in tomorrow.

That'll be your problem. Put fuel in it first and it should start - I did this in France this year, when the tank is that low it'll only take a very slight hill and the car won't start. Two gallon sorted mine as well.

I will give it a go if it is that then its a nice easy fix. My local dealer informed me earlier that if it was the etm then I would be £650 lighter ( less 20% contribution by volvo of course)!

Just an update on the non starting issue, it seems that £10 worth of Shells finest has cured the problem and I am back on the road again. Is this problem on all models or was there just a bad batch of fuel pumps knocking around the factory the day mine was built, is there a fix to this problem apart from leaving enough fuel in the tank and avoiding hills?
