Default XC60 turbo intermittant

Hi folks.
Can anyone help steer me in the right direction please?
I have a 2009 XC60 2.4 Diesel DRIVe (engine cover states D5 engine?)

Recently I've been having a few problems where peformance is drastically reduced due the turbo not working.

Its fine when starting the car from cold but after about 5 mins of driving when the car is coming up to temperature, the turbo drops out and peformance is lost. The turbo stays inactive with NO funny whistling / escaping of air noises. Everything appears normal apart from the lack of power. If I dip the clutch and nail the accelerator, the car won't rev beyond about 3800 revs. No warnings / messages appear on the dashboard.

I've found by pulling over to the side of the road, switching off the engine for about a minute or so and the restarting the engine, the problem clears itself. When restarting like this, the turbo doesn't drop out again - its only from cold when reaching temperature that it fails.

I first noticed this a few weeks ago when the ambient temperature starting dipping to about zero - I don't know if this is linked or just coinsidence?

Any ideas please folks?

Many thanks in advance,
L33

Sounds like the answer is in this thread about the DPF http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=97609

It is definitely the DPF. I had the same symptoms. I have a 2009 XC60 D5 and since the DPF was replaced, no problems at all.

Default XC60 Turbo

My 1979 XC60 D5 AWD also has turbo failure when accelerating but only occasionally. Will ask Main dealer to check for cause.

Many thanks for the replies. When you say DPF, I'm assuming you mean the DPF / exhaust temperature sensors rsther than the DPF itself?

Assuming this the case, do the have to be fitted by the dealer? Are there any instructions / a write up anywhere another forum member has put together for replacing them? I've tried the search to no avail.

Cheers,
L33
