Default V40 Jammed bonnet

Help - I cannot open it! The problem was not with the cable (although it is now, as it has finally snapped under all the exertion) - the catch must be seized up. How can I get at it? I would have preferred not to damage anything, but it now looks as if I may have to.

I suppose there are three possible routes: from underneath; through the grille (although as it is a 1999 model this would probably have to be broken); or from the hinge area,

Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!

hi .... for some bizarre reason i pressed thankyou...there have been similar issues before with the S40 and V40 ...i believe your best option is the underneath option....by removing some of the covers underneath car you should be able to see the bonnet latch and cable..
edit: if that dont work its through the grill

Default Photos please...?!

I've read lots of accounts on these forums of bonnet cables snapping, and lots of people saying "fix a wire loop before this happens". I've also seen a few posts from people asking exactly where to fit this cable, but without answers, and, to be honest, when I quickly checked my V40 I wasn't exactly sure either. I'm sorry if I am being a biff, but having searched this forum I cannot find a clear description of what to do, and it does seem to be a frequently asked question. Therefore...

Could someone who has done this please describe exactly what to do, and if you could post a photo that would be perfect!!

Many thanks, in anticipation...

"Archie".

I haven't heard about this bonnet cable snapping issue or read anything, but I presume what people are saying is to fit a wire loop to the end of the cable where it connects with the catch so if the cable snaps somewhere you could reach through and pull the wire loop with something and simulate pulling the bonnet cable lever in the car... although that's just my take on what you've said, like I say I haven't heard anything of these things before.

The catches cause the problems to begin with, they become corroded if not lovingly cared for, become stiff, then seize. This puts strain on the cable over time which finally gives up the ghost. The routing of the cable does not help matters either.
There are lots of threads on here regarding this problem, it is a common one, just do a search, with explanations for different grilles and contingency suggestions.
If you can find a less tortuous route for your replacement cable it will ease matters in future, but keep the catch well lubed.
