Default Engine building heat

Hello guys , just a random question if I may .
I've got a Xc90 d5 polestar 10 plate .
My question is how long does it take for you engines to build up there temperature ? It only takes me about 2 miles for my temperature to be sat at the half way mark . And I have also noticed that my coolant level is dropping slowly . I have topped it up with about half a little in 4 weeks . Thanks in advance guys .

In the current high ambient temperatures, even a D5 can get to operating temperature very quickly.
You don't want to see it going over though.

The cooling system should never need topping up so you have a leak of some kind.

In Winter my D5 heats up faster than in Summer. I have seen it reach normal operating temperature in 1.6km (1 mile) with the Auxiliary Fuel Burning Heater running.

In Summer it takes a bit longer, and is hugely dependent on the load.
I can drive 3km (1.8 miles) to the bottom of a hill, and the engine coolant gauge is at 1/4 of the scale (warm but not normal operating temperature).

I then drive up the steepish hill, which is 1.4km long (0.9 miles) where the engine is under much more load, and heats up much faster. At the top, it is at normal operating temperature of around 92°C

On the flat, without stop-start traffic, expect around 3 to 5 miles to reach normal temperature.
If driving uphill, or with a full vehicle, or towing a trailer: much shorter.
If driving downhill, then longer.

I would suggest you need to get to the bottom of the coolant leak - one of the causes may be the transmission oil cooler or the engine oil cooler - mixing coolant with either of those can be very expensive.
