Default Heated Mirrors.

Are both door mirrors heated when the rear window demister is switched on?

Currently only my drivers door mirror clears of frost. The passenger on does not but I am not sure if it should or is broken.

Yes, both mirrors come on at the same time as the heated rear window is switched on. No difference in the heating elements, so should clear at about the same rate.

Thanks for the reply.

Looks like I need a complete new mirror unit as the case is currently missing from the original one.

That is probably why it isn't working. The heating element is a foil element glued to the back of the glass. Most likely the weather has de-laminated the element or corroded the terminals.

Just checked the paint code for the car, 344 Dessert Wind Metalic.

It's called beige on the log book though.

Ha, ha, that's marketing for you. Volvo would never have been able to sell a car that was described as Beige. Now, Desert Wind metallic, sounds so exotic and mysterious, it would have attracted a premium.

Wow! I'm on my second V40, with 11 years and about 325,000 miles experience of them and only now do I learn that the mirror heaters only work when the heated rear window is on! With the aircon, I never really need the heated rear window, so it is seldom on! I just thought the mirror heaters were not very good!
