Default I'm back... !

So just bought C70 T5 GT (manual) number 3 after a note in the "wants" section !

So far so good, got me home to Yorkshire from Scotland...

A bit of a project though - roof and windows not working. Horrible whine from the engine, suspect power steering pump.

But on the plus side, interior is immaculate with very little wear, as is the roof, I suspect it's been renewed at some point.

Brakes aren't great either, handbrake wont hold the car on the drive!

Will also be looking for a set of Canistos to replace those P2 S60/V70 rims.

Nice car, I like it and one worth collecting imo and even if it doesn't turn out that way still one worth collecting as it's a good looking ragger.

That is a nice genuine looking base to start from Given that it is a facelift with the uprated engine and a manual GT you have the best possible spec. Black interiors also wear better than lighter coloured ones.

Regarding the roof/window issues: join the Facebook group - Volvo C70 mk1 roof problems and fixes - you will get all the technical info needed to sort. I suspect it probably needs a replacement roof module.

Good luck with the project and it will look so much better with the correct wheels.

Previous owner had already tried a new roof ECU which made no difference. I see that as good news as it likely means the fault is wiring, switch or motor...

If I'm still trying to fix it in July next year, you will know I was optimistic :-)

And yes it had to be a black interior and a dark body colour - black, grey or this dark blue.

It's higher on miles than I would have liked (132k) but the interior is hardly touched.

there is a man called paul mountain on face book who has helped with lots of these roofs. he is well versed on fault finding I'm not sure which area he is from but he has helped many. if you describe your symptoms he may guide you directly to the fault.

Thanks - I've had a quick look for him but haven't found him yet (the previous owner had also been in contact with him).

First I'm going to check everything over, the previous owner mentioned he did have other electrical issues due to damaged wiring so I'm just going to make sure all of that is okay. Then I will re-connect the CAB ECU and see what's what - and then see what I can find out using VIDA. It's been a few years since I've worked on a C70 roof and I do know you need VST to program it but hopefully you can read the sensors and switches with VIDA.

I'm keen for a quick fix but equally I want to understand inside out exactly how it works - It's about the only area on the car that I don't - I'm planning to keep this car many years. I've put a request to join the MK1 Roof group on Facebonk.

Just picked up a power steering pump for £25 from someone breaking a car locally so hopefully that's the whine sorted tonight...

Fuses and relays first followed by deliberate disconnection after it wasn't opening or closing properly, have a look at the bungee cord fix it'll give you a better idea of things even if yours is ok.

Paul Mountain is one of the admins on the Mk1 roof problems and fixes so won't be an issue to find him.
