'70's technology vs modern technology...............no competition.
High tech modern 1.6ltr diesel engine is probably the equivalent of a 1970's 2ltr. |

Phew - I was expecting to see a crash test
Oh, and that 'emergency' stop in the 1800 looked somewhat suspicious.

What a load of rubbish!
The berlingo was only just ahead of teh P1800 and considering how heavy the P1800 is and the high gearing I would have expected the Berlingo to have done much better and left the P1800 way behind. The Brake test was a joke you could see he was going on and off the brakes - a late P1800 or amazon with good tyres will out stop most modern cars. If they wanted to do a old v new test when not pick a typical 70's car so they would not have to cheat?? |

I'm with classicswede on the brakes though - I had cause to emergency brake on the motorway in the ES last year, and the brakes accounted for themselves as well as any modern car could. |

What do you expect, Mike's car was probably reconditioned for £500 and corners cut where possible. ;-) I am just joking and having a wee poke at his show.
A p1800e should easily out drag a diesel berlingo, I doubt his engine still has 130 horses available. Abs brakes are excellent so I wouldn't expect even an equivalent berlingo without abs to compare when it comes to stomping on the brake pedal. |

Oooh the patriotic vitriol!!
End of th'day, we are looking at modern technology creeping up. Lighter engines, more BHP per ton, lighter brakes less unsprung weights....AND I bet the Berlingo does (comparitively) spectacular mpg to boot. Just watching it made my mind up that if I am going to keep the P1800, I am going to use it as a daily motorway driver and need to consider appropriate modernisation. I am fairly sure that Brewer has actually got a P1800 of his own, possibly the one shown in the clip. I think he was easing off the brakes due to skid. |

It was an ad' for berlingo after all. Comparing apples with cabbages. New car on test drive with one probably due for service
