Fuel gauge.
G'day, chaps, help needed.
Does anyone know, FOR CERTAIN, why the fuel gauge on my '71 144 reads incorrectly? when the tank is full the gauge registers three quarters full and this reduces in ratio as the level drops, i.e. when half full one quarter registers. I can guess as well as the next man, what I need is specific advice/info as to the sender unit or the bits in the back of the instrument binnacle. Don't let me down, guys, I can only hold my breath for so long! All the best, Nick. |

RE: Fuel gauge.
I recently had the same problem with my Volvo 144, It turned out to be the sender unit so I got a new through a part department that I found in the Volvo owners club driver magazine.
You can test the fuel gage is ok by turning the ignition on and touching the 1 wire going to the sender unit on the top tank to earth. This should send the fuel gage up to full, then take the wire off the earth, this should send the fuel gage back to empty. If it does this, the fuel gage is ok and fault is the sender unit. If it does not go all the way to full or not all the way back to empty the fault is in the fuel gage. Remember: The gage goes up slower it wont go up fast whn doing this operation |

RE: Fuel gauge.
Thanks for that.
I'm going up the hospital (for cars!) to-morrow for a bit of de-rusting, I'll give that tip a whizz and let you know how I get on. Nick. |
