Default V70 Valuation

Hi All,

I'm trying to get an idea of what my V70 would be worth if sold privately? It's fairly unique because it has extremely low mileage for the age so none of the regular sites (Parkers, Autotrader) have been able to give me a figure.

So I thought I'd ask the people with real knowledge of these cars! If this sort of request is frowned upon in this forum, let me know and I'll remove the thread.

So, here are some details of the car.

V70 2.4 SE
Year 2005
2 owners
Mileage: 37,000
Full Dealer Service History
Latest MOT (March) had no advisories
Bodywork & Interior is exceptional for the age.

I've seen these on Autotrader & Fleabay for as little as £1000 and as much as £5000 depending on the mileage so it's proving difficult to get a good idea of the true value. If I do decide to sell it, I don't want to undervalue it.

So what sort of valuation would you give it? Also, would you recommend any websites to advertise it?

Thanks

Anyone thinking about buying it would want to know more than this before deciding whether or not it's of any interest.

Is it manual or automatic?

What colour is it? What is the colour of the interior?

Which 2.4 petrol engine does it have? 140 bhp? 170 bhp?

Does it have full service history?

Is it a 5-seater or 7-seater?

All of these things will help people to decide whether or not it's worth viewing, and they will also help to determine its market value.

In addition to Sotosound's suggestions, I'd be curious about any accident history, and the reg number to verify mileage and MoT history.

Sounds interesting - it's not going to fetch the kind of premium an R would, but if low mileage Japanese imports of R's are fetching £8 to £10k then £3 to £5k might be reasonable; depends how quickly you want to sell it.

I paid under £1000 for a 2000 V70 with more owners and three times the milage in 2016, 'NullaDave' from a dealer as a trade sale. That, I think, represents the lower end of the range. I'm not sure what you would get for £5000 - it would have to be something really special, as well as something that you really wanted. I don't think that I would pay that for a 16 year old car. That is the high end.

If I was in the market and your car met my criteria (I wouldn't consider a manual, no matter how good, for instance), I would be prepared to offer you in the region of £2000 for it for a private sale. Remember, I'm not expecting any gaurantee and am putting my trust in you as a decent human being. If I was selling, I think that I would advertise it for £2500 in the reasonable expectation of settling around the figure I mentioned. That represents the middle ground, which is where I feel your car is sitting.

Of course, that is only my view; others may, probably will, differ! Used car values are notoriously subjective, but nonetheless, I hope it helps.

Regards, John.

The truth here is based on 2 facts. Firstly as others say it’s specification etc. M
Secondly, and far more importantly is how quickly you want to move it on and how much hassle you wish.

If you look on line you will see 900 and 700 series advertised at 4K-8k. Many many of these have been advertised since Feb 2020 on and off and never ever sell, they are so overpriced.

The truth is that at £1,000 it’s underpriced and with some decent photos you will probably have someone on this forum collect from you the same day with cash.

At £5,000 expect it to sell 9 times on eBay (no one will turn up or collect), many many tyre kickers and time wasters who visit, test drive it then offer £1,500 for it etc etc etc (or to get lucky).
