Default Noise from the rear of the car

Hi boys and girls,

I've got a S60 D5 Auto 2004 (facelift).

My cars been parked up for two weeks as i went on holiday and i did leave the parking park on be it loose as i didn't want to strain the transmission too much as my cars on a slight slope.

Anyhow im getting a noise when setting off from the rear (possible the rear right drivers side), it sounds like a spring it untensioning it self or similar. Now im reasonable sure that this noise came before i left my car parked up for two weeks but i cannot be certain.

Ive had a look underneath and nothing outside of the ordinary is standing out. Any help?

Regards,

Imy

Have them inspected inside the 'drum' as soon as possible. They have a tendency to come apart and do futher expensive damage to the hub.

+1 the hubs are rusted inside and the b shoe is sticking to it. better replace the hub or sand it well, inspect the shoe for delamination, and use the parking brake once in a while after a rain to make sure it doesn't rust

to remove the rusted hub, it helps to fully release the adjusting nut.

Cheers guys,

According to my volvo service history the shoes were indeed done in 2013, since then the car has only done 6/7k.

im assuming its worth fitting new shoe's?
any particular brands or genuine volvo?

Is there a procedure to ensure everything is carried out as well as your posts?

Regards,

Imy

If -as I presume is the case - the design of the handbrake is the same as or similar to other manufacturers, why do Volvos suffer the problem of de-laminating handbrake shoe friction material? Is it a problem that Volvos suffer more than other manufacturers?

I can now hear this noise whilst the car is moving, i used the handbrake carefully whilst the car was moving to see if this would clean up the brakes but nothing worked.

I've got my car booked in for Saturday my only concern is that i wont be able to get parts till Monday and i desperately need my car on the Monday.

Is it just the brake shoes i need? Genuine Volvo or another recommended aftermarket brand?

Regards,

I would be concerned if your 7k shoes have failed already. My original volvo gen ones lasted 100k on both my s60 and v70. If you do change them then use genuine as no point changing genuine that are probably fine for rubbish aftermarket

Thanks for the response.
Could it be a suspension, bush or wheel bearing issue? Im thinking the noise seems more or less constant.

update:

Had the rear brakes and drums inspected and greased up.

However the noise is still there, Im thinking it could be suspension related. Will have to take the car back to the garage.
