LPG Faq
Is there an LPG faq for volvos?
What is the largest size spare wheel tank an S60 can take? What is the best system for a t5 What is the actual cost of an install, prices seem to vary wildly. Why does having a turbo seem to increase the cost by a huge amount? |

You have not said what year your S60 is. Are you willing to raise the floor to get a bigger tank in?
For conversion prices check this link http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=109060 and no turbos do not cost more for conversion unless the installer is using low quality components that are not capale of running higher power cars. |

It would be a T5 2001.
Interesting to see how low your prices are compared to other companies. I received a quote from one (now deleted) for £2400 which seemed a bit over the top, but they claimed it was a turbo'ed car and it needed something extra. Raising the floor - I take it that means just adding some wood beams to lift it higher so a tank can sit under the fake floor. |

Yeah raising the floor just invlolves making a false wooden floor. y doing that you can go upto a 77ltr tank.

Are your prices for LPG installs very competitive then? It's hard work getting my head around why some are two grand and some 1300

My prices are very competative but not the cheapest. There are a number of installers who have come from Poland/Lithuania who do a conversion in a day and are a couple of hundred pounds cheaper. They usualy fit a system called stag and give you a setup cable and software so you can sort the problems out!!

^ I suppose that has some advantages if you have the time and enjoy a tinker.
You are miles away from me though in Newcastle. |

My V70 was converted 7 years and 200,000 trouble-free LPG miles ago by Autogas 2000 in Thirsk - much close to home for you! Others on here have been to them too with good results. Have a word with John or Chris at Autogas 2000 and then compare this with Dai's words of wisdom - plus factor in a couple of rail fares! Fitting LPG has to be done properly, so it makes sense to do your homework. It's your decision, so make some calls, do some thinking, and if you do end up travelling a bit further and spending a little more, you'll be sure that it's been done right! The good news is that you'll have the choice from two converters both of whom are about the best around! Cheers Jack |

Hello. I have just read through several posts on this forum as a guest and was so impressed I have decided to join up!
I have purchased my 2nd S80 T6 this week ( my first was around 7yrs ago and only sold it because of the running costs ) and I am considering an LPG conversion on my 2001 model. I have picked up from other lpg sites that the T6 is hard to convert and could lead to damage to the Autobox? Dai, have you had any experience of converting this year and model? It has only covered 56k miles with full volvo service history and is in tip top condition - the last thing I want to do is damage the car. Many thanks, Brian. |

Lpg
There's no way that an LPG conversion could damage the automatic gearbox, so not quite sure how that one's cropped up!
Some engines are not well-suited and so you're right to ask the question about your specific car. You could try phoning one of the installers mentioned in these threads on here, or getting a message to Dai. LPG is a really good idea if you do a big mileage and plan to keep the car a long time. The one drawback is the loss of the spare wheel space. In a saloon this is perhaps a slightly bigger issue than for an estate car. Payback time is probably around 30,000 miles or so, so you need to be thinking in terms of doing 100,000 miles plus in the car to make real sense of it. My 5-cyl 2.5 10v V70 has now done 200,000 miles since it was converted to LPG, and is still going great, with a total of 250,000 miles up. Do your homework of course, but provided you go with an installer who knows what he's doing (like Dai for example!) and do your sums carefully, then for me, LPG is a great way to power a Volvo. Cheers Jack |
