Default Volvo V70 alarm problem

Had the car nearly 2 years and never even heard the alarm until I got in from work earlier - now it keeps going off.

i've tried re-starting the car, opening and closing all doors but it still keeps activating after a short while - lasted about 10 mins just now from being locked?
any suggestions/ideas?
it's quite loud!
thanks in advance

yes. the battery inside the alarm has broken down and died, you can cut open the alarm and replace the battery £6.90, or replace the whole unit at a cost of £177 at volvo

is there a way of disabling the siren in the meantime or do I need to lock the car with a key until its fixed?

You can pull the fuse, if a v70 is the same as xc70 it's fuse 8 I believe hidden under the steering wheel and above the pedals. You just need a torx driver and double joints to get to it. It may knock out the sunroof if you have one. Have a good read of the other threads to get a better idea of your problem.

Try dropping the bonnet a bit harder than normal, it's worked for some.

If pre-facelift, the fuse is no. 38 at the end of the dashboard. Be mindful that a non-working / disabled alarm siren has been known to invalidate insurance in the event of a claim so you may just have to bite the bullet and buy a new one. Most secondhand sirens will be in a similar state of self-distruction.

Try setting reduced guard mode which will disable the interior and vibration sensors. Another source of problems is the connections to the glass-break elements in the windows either side of the boot.
