Default Power Steering Query

Hi

Was in a bit of a tight spot of parking today that required me to dry steer. and yes i know your not supposed too, but i was quite alarmed at the amount of noise the (i presume it was the steering rack) made when i turned it while not moving. Is this normal or is the rack screwed?

Default Hi

How much noise and does it still do it under "normal use"? Did it make the noise on full lock? Was the noise from the power steering pump?

My Mrs does this all the time and it drives me nuts. To be honest ours doesn't sound too good when she does it but, no leaks, steers fine and I ain't gonna go lookin for a problem. as you said, "if it aint broke, don't fix it".

However if your steering isn't as it was before I would get it checked.

its fine when driving normally. The rack does suffer from the infamous "morning stiffness" problem but when driving is fine. no problems at all.

I wouldn't worry too much then. If you see leaks - worry. Don't we all suffer from morning stiffness, I'm crap until at least 11:00am.
