Default 440 li cooling system

Hi I am a new to this forum I have just got a 440 li 18cc 1994 the other day I checked my cooling system expansion tank to fined that there was no water in it , the temperature gauge was reading normal anyway I topped up the expansion tank with water a bit to much water I drove about 3 mile and the temperature gauge was up in the red I stopped and unscrewed the expansion tank cap and the water was spraying out of it & out of the rubber hose that was going into the thermostat well I think it was the thermostat I let the car cool down for about 15 min then toped it up to the right level, & it has been ok for the rest of the day. Did this happen because I put to much water in the tank or have I got a big problem. Other question my odometer is not recording my mileage how can I fix it would appreciate any help thanks. Normally drive the 240 or 740 the 440 is all new to me.

Default Water?

I have had two 440's now and neither of the buggers could hold there water! Dont even know where it goes on the new one? I'd check the hose it was spraying out of as they tend to have two layers to the pipe. If the layers have seperated a bit the pipe will give up sooner or later and lead to the obvious over heat
