Windscreen Replacement
Morning All,
I had the windscreen replaced on my 2012 V70 in December 2016 and suffered a clicking creaking sound from the dash ever since. Autoglass replaced it under warranty last month and the problem remains. I am 99% sure this is because the windscreen has been mounted too low and is pressing on the dash. Has anyone had this problem before and any success with getting a decent repairer to replace it? I am pretty disappointed in Autoglass who brought the wrong windscreen 4 times before bringing the correct one, and I note that while the original windscreen was Volvo branded St Gobain, the subsequent ones were Pilkington and now unbranded. The unbranded screen seems to suffer much worse from smearing patches from the wipers. Does Volvo subcontract out windscreen replacements? |

Any dealer will subcontract the work to a local windscreen specialist in many cases very few dealers have the skills, tools or experience. Equally many will usually use the most cost effective solution going.
Bluntly having had one of mine replaced recently you really need Volvo OEM glass not just the OE manufacturer as there can be slight quality differences and most will not fit a full OEM piece of glass without request (even some fitters are up front enough to say do not bother). Unfortunately the guy I know and is well known Paul Ralhan of Glasstec Automotive aka The Glassman. He really puts right so many screw ups with glass issues. He might know someone your way who could help you get and fit a professionally a new windscreen as he is down South. The credit I can give Paul is you would never know he was there. And I have had no issues with it. http://www.glasstecpaul.com/ |

Can't really see how a windscreen can be mounted 'too low' but can you spot anywhere where it's making contact with something it shouldn't.

Most bonded, or directly glazed windscreens should be sat on spacers; how the requisite height is achieved (of compressed adhesive bead) varies from car to car. Generally, the bottom of the windscreen will need a buffer/bump-stop/spacer of some description or the screen will sit too close to the leading edge of the dash (or even on the sound dampening material below it). In many cases, the camber of the screen can also be affected by not spacing the windscreen unilaterally.
