1.9D issues HELP!!!
Hi all,
I've got a 52 v40 1.9d sport lux. On my way home from work on Friday then half way through my 150 journey then she decided to die! She lost all power but still running, you can rev the tits off her and seems fine nice and smooth. But when you put her under load then she loses all power after 1500rpm and starts surging badly and after every surge then a cloud of black smoke is shot from the exhaust and there is a loud whooshing noise then it sounds like she is going to stall but picks up back to normal once you finally get the revs up to about 2500 then the whooshing noise is then constant and she smokes really badly. I have run diagnostics on her and I'm getting ECM-0000 and a maf sensor faulty code, (can't remember the code just now) and also a list of check items like cruise control, and a bunch of other stuff. Did a bit of research on t'interweb and a lot of folk said the crankshaft position sensor, replaced that but to no avail. Now at my wits end with this car so would appreciate all input before I start ordering parts and swapping stuff out and hoping it cures it. I've checked all fluids the oil is fine and doesn't seem to be contaminated, the only thing I did notice was the coolant system had excessive amount of pressure. I fully serviced her last month (oil, all filters, coolant flush, brake fluid flush, pas fluid change etc) Sorry for the essay but I'm stumped.

Sounds like your loosing pressure. As Neantherthal says, check all the rubber hoses associated with the intercooler and turbo. The lower one coming off the turbo to the intercooler is directly under the inlet manifold throttle shut off valve and so becomes impregnated with oil deposits dropping onto it - check the underside of it isn't split.

sounds like a leak if its whooshing. i have given up on my car it still goes into limp mode if under load but not as much as it once did and i still get to use most of my rev range without it going in to limp mode.
neanderthal that pic with the blades are they bad? or normal? |

I took all hoses off that are go to and from the turbo and checked them all over and they were sound as a pound, just fitted new stainless steel hoses clips last week. Can't understand it.
One thing I did notice was the hose coming out of the bottom of the EGR was covered in the same looking gunk that builds up inside the inlet manifold. So I cleaned that up and now its smoking from there but that wouldn't make that much difference would it. The turbo looked nice and shiny did appear to have any excess oil or anything in and around it. Could it be possible the head gasket is away? Thanks for all the input so far lads

With regards to the gunk around the egr /shut-off TB area, it is most probably due to a seal (part number 30662337) between the shut-off TB and the inlet manifold. See Baffler's excellent guide here: http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=114946
However, this would not cause any problems at all other than a bit of oil spraying in the engine bay. It definitely has nothing to do with your problems. Have you checked if there is a member near you with VIDA DICE that can read your codes? That would be a great start

Doesn't ECM-0000 mean something is wrong with the ECU? Either that or an earth to the ECU? I had that code coming up once, but never came back after I cleared it.
